Morning, drive to Banjar, near the Great Himalayan National Park, located in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. Upon arrival, check in at homestay. If time permits, you can go for a walk to waterfall. Rest of the time is for pre-trek preparations and meeting with the trekking team. Enjoy bonfire and trout barbeque.
After an early breakfast, drive to Gushaini. Start the trek into the GHNP. You would be required to take your day bags and water along with your packed lunch. From Gushaini (1500 m), proceed for 11 Km easy walk to Rolla (2100 m).
This is a beautiful birding trek passing over remote Himalayan Villages and would take about 6 hours along with birding time built in. Enjoy packed lunch served with hot tea at the entrance of the national park where one would sit by the Tirthan River. Overnight camping in tents at Rolla.
Morning, start trekking to Shilt. This is a 6 km steep trek which takes you through an amazingly thick jungle full of monals, deers and wild animals. This area is a prime habitat full of Monal Pheasant (a large plump pheasant with a loud, ringing call). Males are mainly iridescent blue, green on the mantle and rufous on the neck, with a white patch on the lower back and an orange tail). It is a prominent bird and was the state bird of Himachal and often seen by the tourists and trekkers.
Overnight camping in tents at Shilt. Evening, you will look for the Western Tragopan within the Shilt Thatch.
Morning, start trekking to Rakhundi top along with your instructors. The inexplicable view at the top is breathtaking, with so many clouds around that they seem to be completely filling the valley. You can offer prayers at the temple atop. The participants can get busy in identifying rare alpine herbs found only above a certain altitude. Later, return to Shilt for overnight stay in tents.
A four hour long walk along a narrow trail passing through the entry gate of Great Himalayan National Park takes you to a lonely hut on the right bank of Tirthan at Rolla(2100m).From here, you would trek for another hour to camp at the Park Gate. Tirthan is your music for the evening and lullaby for the night.
From Rolla, you will be driven to your base camp at Sai Ropa where you will rest. Overnight in homestay where you can sing Pahari songs and enjoy your dinner with bonfire.
